Android 10 and iOS 13 allows you to apply system-wide dark theme, there are some apps that do not automatically get the dark theme. One of these apps is Gmail. It didn't have a dark mode setting when Android 10 shipped. This has finally changed now as Google is rolling out the dark-mode setting for the app on Android 10 and iOS 13.

Enable Dark theme

To enable the dark theme on Android 10, go to your Gmail app on the phone, tap on the hamburger menu at the top left and tap on

Settings> General settings> Theme>Dark.

On Pixel, when Battery Saver is enabled, Gmail will default to dark theme automatically. Or, you can go to

Gmail Settings > Theme and select Dark.

The Gmail dark theme is seen in the compose screen and messages. While the body of an email again sticks to the white text, darker signatures can be harder to see.

Gmail's dark mode is available only on Android 10 devices and will not work on Android Pie running Samsung devices.

Google earlier this month rolled out the dark theme for Play Store app for the devices running Android 9 Pie. Users should have Play Store version 16.18.17 and above to receive the dark theme feature.
